The store’s branding leans heavily into pop culture, with an appreciation for classic films and video games, hip hop, and the city of Winston-Salem. The event is set in a repurposed warehouse (common in Winston-Salem’s downtown) and builds on these themes to create a memorable experience and expand the brand’s audience. Buy, Sell, Trade With two floors of merchandise, guests can come to […] - [The Pickle Jar Brand Activation](https://karimfatkhutdinov.com/the-pickle-jar-brand-activation/): UNCSA x The Pickle Jar Downtown Conceptual Design, Brand Activation Concept The design is an all-day public event meant to help The Pickle Jar (UNCSA’s on-campus eatery) to create a memorable image and widen their following, while also making a space for students at the School of the Arts to do what they do best – put on a show. Food & Drink Trailer The beloved Pickle Jar staff have come downtown – serving coffee, tea, pastries, and more to both students and others that pass by. The menu includes many college favorites and the trailer is ordained with trinkets […] - [Shallow](https://karimfatkhutdinov.com/shallow/): “Two teenage boys grapple with their friendship and pride on an evening night out.” Produced by 1716 Digital, an independent Virginia-based film production company.Official selection at the 2025 Virginia Film Festival. The two main sets included a farmhouse and a field, which included a built farmer’s market. Preparation After a site visit, I made floor plans and elevations of each section of the location that was to be reworked into a set. These allowed the production designer to have a detailed layout to work off of and the set decorator to have clear references for space and placement. Preparation After a site visit, I made floor […] - [Born This Way](https://karimfatkhutdinov.com/born-this-way/): Born This Way Fabrication Task I collaborated with the production designer to build a 3-wall sitcom-style set on a sound stage. The set was built, stood, painted, and decorated in the span of 2 weeks. Fabrication The set included a kitchen island piece, a header with a hallway section, large windows throughout, and separate living room and dining room areas. Preparation My responsibilities included the logistics of sourcing set decoration as well as dressing out the location. 3D models were created by production designer Kayla Gulliver. My team and I followed these closely as we dressed out the space. My work involved developing the look for three sets – a mobster’s office, the store interior, and exterior storefront. In each case, I had to transform a location into a stylized set from a different time period. Pre-Visualization 3D Models were made in Sketchup based on location dimensions. These specified the layout of set decoration and were crucial when sourcing and sizing furniture and dressing. They were also […] - [The King's Pine](https://karimfatkhutdinov.com/the-kings-pine/): The King’s Pine Production Design Task The King’s Pine is a short film set in Georgian Britain. It follows a royal family that descends into madness at the hands of their Prince – who has grown smitten with a mysterious servant. As the production designer, I managed the look of the film and the transformation of several locations into a dining room, king’s study, and servant’s chambers. Production The film was primarily shot in two houses in Winston-Salem, NC. Extensive work was done to transform these locations into a period-accurate set, including complete replacement of furniture and light fixtures, installation […] - [Daniels Bridge Redesign](https://karimfatkhutdinov.com/daniels-bridge-redesign/): Daniels Bridge Redesign Urban Design, Miniature Modeling A proposed redesign of a section of Highway 64 in the Outer Banks, North Carolina. The Melvin R. Daniels Bridge is a part of Highway 64 and connects Roanoke Island to the Barrier Islands of North Carolina’s Outer Banks. Being part of a 5-lane highway, it is dangerous to bike or cross, which led to pedestrian access being permanently closed on one side of the bridge. This limits accessibility and accomodation for forms of transport other than cars. The redesign includes multi-use paths for walking and biking, a signaled crosswalk, and a bus […] - [Fable of Fey](https://karimfatkhutdinov.com/fable-of-fey/): Fable of Fey Fabrication Task As the lead scenic, I was responsible for finishes on several fabricated pieces, including a stone statue and a faux wall intalled on-site. Fabrication A faux wall was constructed and installed at a filming location to hide an area that did not fit the look of the rest of the space. The wall was constructed out of lumber and MDF and resembled the wooden posts and plaster walls of the location. A secondary task was to finish a sculpture made out of plastic, foam, clay, and fabric to look like mossy, aged stone. This was […] - [The Last Time I Saw You](https://karimfatkhutdinov.com/the-last-time-i-saw-you/): The Last Time I Saw You Fabrication Task As the construction coordinator on this short film, I was tasked with overseeing construction of a bathroom set meant to match an existing filming location. I worked closely with the designer and lead scenic to make the set both practical for camera and actors, as well as match the main set stylistically, from the moulding and finishes to the fixtures. Production Leading a team of carpenters, we put the set together in just under two weeks. The process included building custom-sized flats, installing molding and wainscoting, and putting up bathroom fixtures and […] - [Larka Colliding](https://karimfatkhutdinov.com/larka-colliding/): Larka Colliding Production Design, Fabrication Task Larka Colliding is a short film about an aimless young woman in a motel the day before an alien planet is predicted to collide with the Earth. As the production designer, I oversaw the visuals and managed every location on this short film. This included on-site work at a motel and two built sets – lobby and room – on a sound stage. The design was timeless and surreal, meant to complement the film’s absurdist, comedic style and reflect the scattered mental state of the protagonist. Pre-Visualization Detailed 3D models and renders were made […] - [CONTACT](https://karimfatkhutdinov.com/contact/): LET’S TALK Have a question in mind or a project you’d like to collaborate on?
