Technical Design, Fabrication
Task
I oversaw all technical design, fabrication drawings, and construction and installation for a talk-show style set. The build involved a bespoke desk for the show hostess and a curved platform to go under all the furniture.
I worked off of initial sketches provided by the production designer to create detailed CAD drawings and engineer solutions that kept the intended aesthetic while also being feasible with our limited budget and timeline.
Design
Several tweaks to the original design were made during this process, including reducing the platform length from 22' to 20' to be compatible with 4x4 and 4x8 platforms we had in stock. This minimized the amount of custom fabrication that needed to be done while retaining the shape and size the designer envisioned.
Production
Over the course of a week, materials were sourced from various vendors, the desk and platform pieces were assembled in the shop, and walls and scenery were installed on site.
